Action Team Captain and role model ...
“I had done some volunteering at school but I did a lot more once I joined the Action Team. Being an Action Team Captain makes you a role model at school. You also are exposed to other students who are doing good work as volunteers.”
Inspired by Major League Action Team players ...
“I was in a video with Action Team players from the Philadelphia Phillies to recruit students to become Action Team Captains. I wasn’t aware of the volunteer service the players do before I joined the Action Team.”
College benefits from Action Team volunteering ...
“All colleges are looking for students who are well-rounded. That includes being out in the community volunteering. But colleges want to see that you focus your efforts and really invest in the projects you do. There is also a lot of emphasis on being a leader. With the Action Team, you’re involved in projects from the start. And Action Team Captains are service leaders.”
From Action Team Captain to Yale volunteer ...
“Volunteering is very big at Yale. Through my sorority, I’m involved in literacy projects in New Haven and other volunteer activities. I have a “little sister,” a high school student, through Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I’ve volunteered in international service programs organized by Yale. The summer after my freshman year I worked in Ghana at a Planned Parenthood program. I spent a spring break in Thailand volunteering at an orphanage for disabled children. Volunteering can be a real eye opener. At the orphanage, of 350 children, only two were on the road to adoption.”
Why join the Action Team?
“Now that every high school can join the Action Team, do it! Volunteering is a fun way to give back to your community. Joining the Action Team is an easy way to volunteer. You have other Action Team Captains to help get projects off the ground. You have advisors to offer guidance. And you get support from Volunteers of America and the Action Team players.”
